Jamaica Kincaid receives PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award
"PEN America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting free speech, held its 62nd annual Literary Awards ceremony March 31, where the organization awarded nearly $350,000 in prizes.
Two New England-based writers were honored at the ceremony in New York City.
Boston University assistant professor of neurology Pria Anand received the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award for her book 'The Mind Electric: A Neurologist on the Strangeness and Wonder of Our Brains,' and Vermont-based writer Jamaica Kincaid received the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay for her collection 'Putting Myself Together: Writing 1974.'"
