New Book Release: The Oxford Chaucer, edited by Christopher Cannon and James Simpson
This 2-volume edition of Chaucer’s complete oeuvre, edited by James Simpson, Loker Research Professor of English, Emeritus, and Christopher Cannon, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of English and Classics, Johns Hopkins University, was published on October 17 by Oxford University Press. The edition has strong Harvard English roots, since both editors are connected with the department, Simpson as professor and Cannon (’87) as undergraduate. The editing of Chaucer on this scale has, indeed, a strong Harvard English tradition: the previous edition of this magnitude (The Riverside Chaucer (1987)) was general-edited by Larry D. Benson, who taught in the department for 45 years until his retirement in 1998. Widener stands behind both editions!
