At this annual event, our class of Professional Development Mentors will speak about their summer projects, and we will announce our LC events for the year. Come for community, insights about a variety of “literary careers,” and pie!
“Literary Leadership” Lunch & Alumni Keynote Speech
October 17, 12-1:30, Barker Center
Join President Gabi Starr of Pomona College for lunch, to learn about how her interdisciplinary scholarship—in 18th-century literary studies, psychology, and neuroscience—informs her leadership. President Starr graduated from Harvard with her PhD in 1999.
Alumni Mentorship Meet & Greet

At this event, students will have the opportunity to talk with alumni and student Professional Development Mentors in a wide variety of career fields. Join us for refreshments, camaraderie, and to expand your idea of what you can do with a degree in English.
Literary Papers First Issue Launch Party

Join us to celebrate the launch of our first issue of Literary Papers, a journal of the English department. There will be student authors, editors, food, and merriment! You should plan to attend this event if you are curious about submitting your work to Literary Papers or want to join our leadership team.

The LC team is thrilled to welcome President Suzanne Keen of Scripps College, President Katherine Rowe of William & Mary, Provost Carolyn Dever of Dartmouth (also CEO of Dever Justice LLC), and Dean Robert Aguirre of James Madison University back to Barker. All these executive alumni earned their PhDs from the Harvard English Department, and they are returning to tell us about their paths to literary leadership. You’ll have a chance to meet our panelists over refreshments, after their talk concludes.
