SUMMARY:Renaissance Colloquium Community Conversation: How Do We Build a Representative Humanities?
DESCRIPTION:
Whom do the writers and texts we consider standard aim to represent? Does the canon offer an accurate glimpse of literary historical periods? Whose tastes do they reflect? And, by extension, whose voices are considered expendable, and why? As we enter a new epoch in the search for civil rights and for "we the people," the humanities too must correct built-in disparities of historical and contemporary representation if they are to be representative of the world. Join us on Thursday, Feb 4 at 4 pm EST for a discussion about the "we" of literature and criticism -- and how to expand it. Readings/videos (please choose one) and Zoom link available here.
