Faculty Summer Reads
Check out our Instagram (@harvardenglish) to see what our faculty are reading this summer!
Prof. Helen Vendler is re-reading—now that it’s summer—Jorie Graham’s enthralling “From the New World: Poems 1976-2014,” following Graham’s life from youth through adolescence, marriage, and her years in academic life as she invents new themes, forms, and meditations. #facultysummerreads
Laura van den Berg and Paul Yoon
Today’s#FacultySummerReads welcomes three new members of the English Department! Laura van den Berg (Briggs-Copeland Lecturer) is reading “Night Sky With Exit Wounds” by Ocean Vuong and “Memoirs of a Polar Bear” by Yokohama Tawada, while Paul Yoon (Briggs-Copeland Lecturer) is reading “White Sands” by Geoff Dyer. Their dog Oscar appears undecided. Check out their fiction workshops this fall!
Department of English Chair, Prof. James Simpson, is spending a rainy day in Berlin reading a great philosophical meditation on the digital world: “Pour un Humanisme Numérique” (2011) by Milad Doueihi.#FacultySummerReads
Our first#FacultySummerReads! Prof. Andrew Warren is currently reading Minh Lê & Isabel Roxas’s “Let Me Finish!,” published this week! His daughter, Mira, is enjoying Karl Kirchwey’s translation of Paul Verlaine’s “Poems Under Saturn”- “a light banquet of sound perfect for summer teething.”
