Faculty, students, and staff of the English Department join in grief at the death on August 30th 2013 of Seamus Heaney, who was Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory from 1984 to 1995 and Ralph Waldo Emerson Poet in Residence until 2006.  Seamus once wrote that poetry is “a tribute paid by what we have been true to,” and today we are reminded that his body of work stands as a tribute to his unerring vision as a poet. His colleagues remember him not merely for his wonderful poems, but as a devoted mentor and a generous friend.
