Gordon Teskey Awarded Phi Beta Kappa Society’s Christian Gauss Award

teskeygaussThe Department of English is thrilled to congratulate Professor Gordon Teskey, who has been awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Society’s Christian Gauss Award for his book, The Poetry of John Milton (HUP 2015).

The Christian Gauss Award is awarded for books in the field of literary scholarship or criticism. Gordon Teskey’s book was selected because it “shows how the poet’s changing commitments are subordinated to an aesthetic that joins beauty to truth and value to ethics.”

Leo Damrosch, Deidre Lynch and Gordon Teskey were among the five finalists nominated for the Christian Gauss Award–a remarkable representation of the Department!

Our congratulations to all!
