Amy Hempel elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences - 4. 23. 14

hempel-croppedThe Department extends its congratulations to Senior Lecturer on English Amy Hempel, who has just been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Hempel is the author of several collections of short stories, including Reasons to Live (1985), At the Gates of the Animal Kingdom (1990), Tumble Home (1997), and The Dog of the Marriage (2005). She has taught Creative Writing at Harvard for five years.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1780 “as a champion of scholarship, civil dialogue, and useful knowledge.” The 204 new members of the 2014 class will be inducted at a ceremony on October 11th, at the Academy‚Äôs headquarters in Cambridge.
